Ruukki to supply Cat with wear-resistant special steel

  • 07-Jul-2011 03:01 EDT

Helsinki, Finland-based Rautaruukki (Ruukki) will supply its wear-resistant special steel Raex 400 to Caterpillar for use in the main body structure of the company’s articulated dump trucks (ADTs), considered to be one of the most demanding applications for wear-resistant steel due to the continual impact and wear experienced. The material has been approved by Cat in accordance with its 1E1839 specification. The approval testing was performed at the Cat Peterlee production facility in the U.K., where the group’s ADT product for global supply is manufactured. The approval process included chemical, mechanical, and impact testing as well as macro testing on the weld; identical tests were performed in large quantity to ensure product consistency. The contract covers delivery of Raex to Cat’s major European facilities for 2011.
