EB, Freescale, QNX Software team on reconfigurable instrument cluster platform

EB (Elektrobit), Freescale Semiconductor, and QNX Software Systems Ltd. are teaming to form a proven base on which automakers can develop reconfigurable, branded instrument clusters with advanced graphical capabilities and performance. They will combine and optimize the EB GUIDE 5 HMI tooling and runtime software, the QNX Neutrino Realtime Operating System (RTOS) and hardware-accelerated graphics drivers, and Freescale's i.MX53 processor with dual graphics processing units and integrated automotive peripherals. The joint collaboration addresses the features required for a fully reconfigurable digital instrument cluster: feature-rich graphics supported by hardware acceleration (OpenGL ES2.0, OpenVG1.1), a tool-based development process, and a scalable, standards-based RTOS platform to support software re-use across multiple car models and brands. EB says several major automakers have expressed interest in the new platform, and the company expects the software to be in use at one of them before year's end.
