API Heat Transfer has opened a test and validation center with a development lab featuring a calorimetric test stand that can simulate air flows to 30,000 ft3/min (9144 m3/min) as well as air temperatures typically found in the engine compartment. Fluid flow loops include aqueous glycol, water, oils, and air from a dedicated compressor. A data acquisition system combined with Labview software is used to control all process loops to the desired temperatures and manage system information. The company focuses on fundamental heat transfer research and primary surface development, applications-focused product development, ongoing software development, and validation in the lab so customers can witness the performance of the heat exchanger under simulated actual conditions before it goes on the engine or process system.
