Positronic's next-generation environmental D-subminiature connector features a unibody design that eliminates the need for sealants while offering protection from the environment. Connectors can operate in a temperature range of -40 to +125°C (-40 to +257°F). Nominal current rating for the WD series is 7.5 A, and 5 A for the WDD series; both connectors meet IP67 environmental testing requirements and pass a 1 GΩ minimum insulation resistance test and a 1000 Vrms voltage proof test. Connectors can be supplied with corrosion protection or corrosion resistance options. The unibody design is available in 13 variants with 9 to 50 contacts, in both standard and high-density options. Termination types include straight and right-angle PCB and solder cup.

As ground vehicles employ more electronic sensing, control and communication systems, design engineers are increasingly utilizing more commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) modules. Though COTS slashes development time and costs, it’s still difficult for many military users to find COTS boards that meet their low-volume demands for ruggedization and redundancy.
