Minnesota Rubber and Plastic has custom-molded a complex, three-piece assembly into a single part of high-performance polyetherimide (PEI) plastic to increase operating life for a radiator sight gauge on a skid steer loader. Sight gauges show coolant level on the radiator without having to uncap and check the level or use a dipstick. With a threaded base, the single component gauge locks into position and is less prone to leakage. Other features include improved mechanical properties, flame-retardant heat resistance at continuous temperatures up to 356°F (180°C), and material stability ensuring operating life up to 20 years. The company claims that PEI precision molding enhances design function and efficiency over other material formulations including metal. Components offer improved hydrolytic and UV stability as well as radiation resistance, and the plastic is suited for repeated hot air, steam, and cold chemical exposure.
