ASM Sensors has added the PRAS21 series noncontact position sensor to its Posirot family of magnetic rotary sensors. The PRAS21 series uses an external position magnet to provide an absolute output signal over a 0 to 360° measurement range and to offer continuously wear-free operation. The 360° range may be ordered with smaller measurements in 15° increments. The sensor output features an analog voltage signal of 0.5 to 4.5 V, with other outputs available. The PRAS21 housing offers a height of less than 0.25 in (6.35 mm). Rated IP60, the circuit board is fully potted for improved shock and vibration resistance, with a resolution of 0.03% at full scale. A flat profile makes the PRAS21 series suitable for various applications, and the sensor can be installed with M3 screws.

As ground vehicles employ more electronic sensing, control and communication systems, design engineers are increasingly utilizing more commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) modules. Though COTS slashes development time and costs, it’s still difficult for many military users to find COTS boards that meet their low-volume demands for ruggedization and redundancy.
