OPTEK Technology’s high-reliability optically coupled isolators provide 1-kV electrical isolation to TX, TXV, and COTS-level standards to protect sensitive circuit elements. The 4N2x and 4N4x series isolators are hermetically sealed metal packages, with either surface-mount six-pin leadless chip carriers or through-hole TO-78 metal cans. The devices consist of a 935 nm (4N2x) or an 890 nm (4N4x) wavelength IR-emitting diode and an NPN silicon phototransistor mounted in a hermetically sealed metal package, with a base contact provided for conventional transistor biasing. Devices are also available with the collector pin electrically isolated from the case.
