Electronic design engineers can use Ansoft Designer 6.0’s Solver on Demand technology to analyze signal integrity, power integrity, and electromagnetic interference problems from a single schematic- and layout-based environment. The system enables high-speed electronics and RF/microwave designers to access field and circuit simulation tools while designing electronic packages and printed circuit boards, early in the design cycle before manufacturing costs are incurred. Solver on Demand technology integrates HFSS, 3-D electromagnetic field simulation software from ANSYS, and HSPICE, the integrated circuit simulation tool from Synopsys, within the Ansoft Designer 6.0 design platform. The resulting benchmark design flow offers the ability to predict how high-frequency electromagnetic components affect the integrated circuits.

The fusing of emerging technologies from the aerospace materials sector and biological sciences are now, for the first time, heading toward the prospect of growing parts, systems, and, ultimately, perhaps whole aircraft.
One of the biggest issues in bringing forward new designs is the length of time that it takes to agree to a new specification, research and evaluate the alternative features and configurations, and then embark on a development program that will take the design to flight testing and ultimately operational service.
NRL scientists have demonstrated metallic spin filtering at room temperature using ferromagnet-graphene-ferromagnet thin film junction devices.
Researchers from the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory's Optical Sciences Division and Material Science Division have detected acoustic emissions from cracks in riveted lap joints using a distributed feedback fiber laser-acoustic emission sensor.
