Federal-Mogul develops Coronit material for mechanical face seals from Goetze. Designed to help construction vehicles using Goetze seals operate efficiently, the eco-friendly materials offer savings through longer repair cycles. Coronit is a cast iron with ledeburic structure and free graphites, giving the material high thermal conductivity. Reaching a degree of hardness of 47 to 57 HRC, Coronit resists seizure, scoring, and wear and offers an improved rotational speed and oil retention behavior. The product is suitable for use on excavators, cranes, or tunnel-boring machines that face heavy tribological loads and harsh working environments. The bearings of rollers, carriers, idlers, and other drivetrain applications as well as the hubs of wheel drives and axles are protected from dirt and debris, where standard seals may be too fragile to withstand such loads and conditions.
