The 6403 shaftless stepper motor from Sonceboz is an actuator for instrument clusters designed to improve pointer illumination and enable design freedom. The motor delivers a torque of 1.6 N•m (1.2 lb•ft) and weighs 7 g (0.25 oz). LED light is directly emitted through the stem of the pointer, preventing loss in light intensity and unwanted diffusion and reducing the halo under the pointer cap. The 6403 generates a light intensity four to six times higher than standard shafted motors, according to the company, and the homogeneity does not vary with the angular position of the pointer. Expandable rivets and locking pins are fully integrated in the housing, simplifying assembly onto the PCB and making the motor compatible with solderless contacts delivered on tape and reel to eliminate soldering processes and equipment.
