BorgWarner’s VTG turbocharger will help the new JCB Dieselmax engine reach Tier 4/Stage III B emissions legislation without aftertreatment.

BorgWarner will supply both wastegate and variable turbine geometry (VTG) turbochargers to JCB Power Systems for the new versions of its Dieselmax 4.4-L engines starting in 2012. Designated the JCB Ecomax T4, it is an inline four-cylinder, mid-range diesel offering 55 to 130 kW (74 to 174 hp) in applications such as agricultural, construction, and materials handling machinery. The turbo technology will help this new engine meet stringent Interim Tier 4/Stage III B regulations without exhaust aftertreatment or diesel particulate filters. The 55-kW engine will use a BorgWarner fixed geometry turbocharger with integral wastegate boost control; for the higher ratings, JCB will use the new BV55 VTG turbocharger, which features a high-durability brushless actuator specifically designed and manufactured by BorgWarner for use in heavy-duty turbochargers and EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valves. BorgWarner engineers collaborated with JCB Power Systems to optimize the charge air system design.
