WEG Electric's WISE insulation high-efficiency W magnet drive system is incorporated inside the motor and controlled by the CFW11 variable frequency drive (VFD) to extend life. The W magnet motor offers a 52% reduction in weight and a 47% reduction in volume compared to standard induction motors, according to WEG. NdFeB magnets are inserted inside the rotor instead of conventional aluminum alloy squirrel cages to improve efficiency levels within a smaller frame. The system meets efficiency standards including the EPAct. The VFD uses WEG’s vector technology algorithm, enabling control without an encoder or position sensor and reducing the number of components. The W magnet motor also features noise reduction to under 73 dB(A) and operates with 15 to 20 hp (11.2 to 15 kW) output at 460 V.
