AxleTech offers an axle for empty heavy-duty material handling trucks that incorporates wheel-end technology to reduce tire wear by as much as 60%, according to the company. The XTL (extended tire life) technology allows independent rotation of wheels during a turn, minimizing tire scrub, which is the main cause of tire wear. The technology can extend drive-axle tire and steer-axle life, and it eliminates the need for tire rotation. Benefits include reduced vehicle downtime and improvements in vehicle maneuverability with a tighter turning radius. The technology also lessens environmental impact through reduced tire use and decreases damage to yard surfaces. The XTL is available for both production and field-operated container handling units of all heavy-duty truck models.
