The SCiB Super Charge Ion Battery from Toshiba features a rapid charging capability of 90% charge in less than five minutes and full recharge in less than 10 minutes; life of more than 10 years at rapid charge rates with minimal capacity loss after 6000 rapid charge/discharge cycles; and improved safety performance with advanced lithium chemistry based on nano technology that prevents thermal runaway under physical duress. Other performance advantages that make the SCiB suitable for energy storage challenges include up to 85% capacity without compromising cycle life; discharge rates equivalent to those of ultracapacitors; and improved low-temperature performance down to -30°C (-22°F). The battery was developed for industrial lift trucks and other applications.
