Volvo CE to consolidate NA industrial operations

The manufacturing of motor grader cabs will shift from Asheville, NC, to Volvo CE’s plant in Shippensburg, PA.

Volvo Construction Equipment (CE) has decided to consolidate its North American industrial operations by removing excess industrial capacity in the Americas. As a result, the company’s Asheville, NC, manufacturing facility will stop its activities by March 31, affecting 228 employees. The production from Asheville will be moved to other existing Volvo CE locations; the company says that supply to its North American dealers and customers will remain uninterrupted. The manufacturing of wheel loaders will move to Arvika, Sweden; excavators will be produced in Changwon, South Korea; and cabs for motor graders will be moved to Shippensburg, PA. The decision does not impact the “ongoing significant investments” to expand the Shippensburg plant, according to Volvo CE. A small number of employees from the Asheville plant will be offered positions in Shippensburg.
