Deere orders Voith damper for compact tractors

Voith claims that its new Hydrodamp HTSD 300 LS damper, for which Deere has placed a large order, allows frequent driving in the lower speed range, thus enabling fuel savings and reduced emissions in compact tractors.

Voith Turbo has developed a torsional vibration damper for tractors of the light compact class, and John Deere has placed an order for tens of thousands of these Hydrodamp HTSD 300 LS dampers. The damper is installed between the engine and gearbox; it isolates vibrations from the driveline and provides hydraulic damping that reduces overloads. Hydrodamp dampers traditionally have been aimed at tractors over 100 hp (75 kW), but there is now an increasing trend toward higher quality transmissions with load-shift functions below this class, according to Voith. The company says that its relationship with Deere impacted the product development: just one year after Voith designed the new vibration damper and provided prototypes for vehicle tests in the U.S., the Hydrodamp entered series production.
