The NEURON European unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) demonstrator, which Northrop Grumman is delivering the attitude and heading reference systems for, will be used to investigate and validate technologies needed to design next-generation UCAV aircraft.

Saab Aerosystems awarded Northrop Grumman Corp. a contract to supply LCR-100 Attitude and Heading Reference Systems (AHRS) for the NEURON European unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) demonstrator. The commercial off-the-shelf LCR-100 Gyrocompass north-finding AHRS, based on a fiber-optic gyro and micro-electromechanical accelerometers, provides accurate and uninterrupted attitude, heading, position, velocity, and status information. The NEURON demonstrator will be used to investigate and validate technologies needed to design next-generation UCAV aircraft. First flight is expected in March 2012, and test flights will be conducted in France, Sweden, and Italy.
