Tape position sensor

ASM Sensors’ Positape WB17KT series of stainless steel tape position sensors offers measurement ranges of 137, 255, and 393 in (3480, 6477, and 9982 mm). Replacing thin measurement cable with a thin, highly flexible stainless steel band, the rugged, industrial-grade WB17KT series operates in a similar manner as a tape measure. Advantages of this technology are the ability to have a long measurement range in a relatively compact housing, the almost unlimited life of the metal tape, and its suitability for use in confined locations where pulleys must be used. Due to the smooth surfaces of the tape, the risk of ice buildup is reduced. An optional brush is available to wipe off debris from the tape upon retraction. Suitable for harsh environments, the WB17KT series is available with analog 0 to 10 V, 4 to 20 mA, or 1 kOhm outputs.
