Ametek’s NGI vehicular instrumentation system includes the CAN-Communicator (C-COM), which is a rugged, 2-in (50-mm) gauge that can be used either by itself or as a complement to existing instrumentation by connecting it to an SAE J1939 CAN data bus. The module can display data directly from the vehicle data bus, or it can show text and graphics specified by the user. The standard version includes data parameters of key vehicle operations as well as active and stored fault codes from the engine control unit along with popup warning messages. One application is the fuel economy version that features current MPG, average MPG, trip fuel, total fuel, and fuel rate. Another application is the diesel exhaust fluid/urea level gauge, which helps meet the U.S. EPA’s 2010 requirement for diesel engines equipped with selective catalytic reduction exhaust systems.
