VKSD Model fail-to-safe disc brake calipers from Twiflex offer control for heavy-duty mining equipment. In conveyor applications, spring-applied, hydraulically released VKSD caliper brakes are used for emergency stops, for normal stopping, and for parking when one conveyor feeds material to another and risks overspill, or when personal injury is a risk, such as underground mining. VKSD brakes may be fitted to the tail drum, driving drum, motor shaft, or to the upstream end on long overland conveyors to prevent a catapult effect from a reversal of belt tension. Brakes are mainly suitable for winder and haulage mining applications, according to the company.
