The SH72531 from Renesas Technology America is a 120-MHz 32-bit SuperH microcontroller (MCU) that integrates 1.25 megabytes of flash memory. With only 176 pins, the compact 24 x 24-mm (0.944 x 0.944-in) low-profile quad flat package (LQFP) MCU can implement the fine-grained control of automotive engines and transmissions needed to achieve smooth, powerful performance and high efficiency with low emissions. The SH72531’s SH-2A 32-bit CPU core with a floating-point unit for full software compatibility achieves 240 MIPS processing performance at 120 MHz. Yet the 3.3-v/5-v chip consumes just 350 mW. Value engineered to cost less and consume less power, the SH72531 meets industry requirements for high reliability and operation at temperatures as high as 125°C (257°F). A powertrain control system solution, it's tailored to the requirements of smaller, less expensive vehicles.
