Timing belt

ContiTechs timing belt is designed for lifetime use in common-rail engines. Used standard in the diesel engine of the new Volkswagen Golf, the CONTI diesel runner transmits the force of the crankshaft to the camshaft via the common-rail pump in common-rail engines. High flexing frequency poses particular challenges for the belt’s flexibility. By using new, thinner cord types, the CONTI diesel runner offers improved bending fatigue strength. A special elastomer compound also makes the belt cold stable to temperatures down to -32°C (-26°F). With more than 180,000 km (111,850 mi) logged on Volkswagen’s engine test bench, the diesel runner features demonstrated durability for an entire engine life, says ContiTech. Volkswagen Tiguan diesel engines were fitted with ContiTech’s new timing belts in the beginning of 2008.
