Absolute encoder interface

  • 03-Feb-2009 03:31 EST

ACS Motion Control's high-speed serial interface (HSSI)-HES peripheral module for SPiiPlus and MC4U motion controllers enhances flexibility by offering two solutions for absolute position feedback. The device supports EnDat v2.2 and Tamagawa Smart-Abs absolute encoders. Each module can handle one or two feedback devices of either kind. Connection from the system to the controller is done via the SPiiPlus' HSSI using Cat5 cabling, allowing the device to be mounted remotely up to 20 m from the controller. Features include encoder error protection for true position feedback, a 20 kHz sampling rate synchronized with the servo cycle, and support for index detection and latching of encoder position.
