Delphi Diesel’s Stonehouse, Gloucestershire, factory produces electronic fuel injectors for diesel trucks by customers including Volvo and John Deere. Components at the facility are cleaned and degreased in automated, multistage, industrial FinnSonic washing machines prior to assembly. The body hard area wash removes heavy soils from the injector bodies and plungers, including heat treatment scale, machining debris, and cutting fluids, making them suitable for a hydraulic test. The assembly and test area wash includes automatic demagnetization of components to ensure minute particles will not be attached by residual magnetism. That final wash, which involves some changes in the process sequence and chemicals, precedes assembly. The system is enclosed with interlocked access doors and alarms and replaced spray-type cleaning machines.
