The no. 989 from Grieve is an electrically heated, 2000ºF (1093ºC) inert atmosphere furnace used to process fabricated parts such as auto body frames. Measuring 30 ft (9 m) x 48 ft (15 m) x 30 ft (9 m), the furnace features 57 kW (76 hp) installed in nickel chrome wire coils supported by vacuum-formed ceramic fiber to heat the unit. The inert atmosphere is maintained by a roof-mounted, heat-resisting alloy circulating fan powered by a 2-hp (1.5-kW) motor with V-belt drive. Grieve’s inert atmosphere construction includes a continuously welded outer shell, high-temperature door gasket, sealed heater terminal boxes, inert atmosphere inlet, and inert atmosphere outlet.
