A recently approved amendment to a European Commission (EC) directive mandates the fitment of daytime running lamps to all types of motor vehicles in the European Union, according to InterRegs. The directive, 2008/89/EC, requires that from Feb. 7, 2011, all new types of passenger cars, multipurpose passenger vehicles, and goods vehicles with a GVW not exceeding 3500 kg be fitted with daytime running lamps. For goods vehicles with a GVW greater than 3500 kg, as well as buses and coaches with more than nine seats, the deadline is Aug. 7, 2012.
