ZF and Beiqi Foton Motor recently signed an agreement under which the former will supply transmission technology for a new delivery vehicle being developed by the Chinese truck maker. The light-commercial vehicle using ZF's manual 5S400 transmission will be launched next year, according to the German supplier. The prototype phase for the truck is just beginning. The agreement calls for further cooperation in the development of a medium-duty truck and a pickup truck as well as longer-term calls for cooperation in the areas of automated transmissions and hybrid vehicles. Beiqi Foton is based in Beijing and claims to be China's No. 1 manufacturer of commercial vehicles, with 1.4 million units sold in the past 12 years. ZF has 19 production companies in China.
