Tata chooses new site for Nano production

  • 23-Oct-2008 01:38 EDT

Although the company had almost completed its "mother" plant for the Nano "$2500 car," India's Tata Motors has decided to build the diminutive car at another location to avoid continued "agitation" from the local populace. Farmers at the original location demanded from Tata and the government proper compensation for the taking of land for the plant in the state of West Bengal. The new site is in Sanand, state of Gujarat, and is owned by the state government. Tata gave no construction timetable estimate. Meanwhile, the company will consider building the Nano initially at its existing facilities in Pune and Pantnagar until the mother plant is completed.
