Heinzmann GmbH's electric motor/generator for diesel hybrid drives reduces fuel consumption and enhances powertrain system dynamics. A preferred off-road concept is the mild hybrid, which consists of diesel engine, electric motor, battery, and control unit. The electric drive enhances the main diesel engine drive. The mild hybrid performs functions including start/stop, which eliminates need for a starter motor; boost, which covers power peaks; recuperation for charging braking energy into the battery; and battery charging - when the power of the diesel engine is not fully required, the electric motor can operate as generator to charge the battery.
