The Eagle has landed

Lotus' Project Eagle uses a modified V6 Toyota engine. Initially available as a 2+2 seater, other versions will follow.

The long-awaited Project Eagle has been taken off Lotus’ secret list prior to the British International Motor Show. Full details will be released at the show, but the car is powered by a modified midmounted 206-kW (276-hp) 3.5-L Toyota V6 engine with dual VVT-i (intelligent variable valve timing) that is expected to provide a 0-97 km/h (0-60 mph) time below 5 s and a top speed close to 260 km/h (162 mph).

The car uses "innovative" lightweight chassis technology, stated Lotus. Initially available early next year as a 2+2, a two-seater will follow and other variations on the design include a convertible and an "ultra-high performance" model.

Unlike some Lotus products that have minimalist cockpits to meet specific market needs, Project Eagle has a luxurious cabin.

The car was designed in-house and incorporates styling cues that distinguish present and past Lotus cars. It is cab-forward and has a downforce-generating top exit radiator vent, rear diffuser, and rear wing.

The interior includes a 7-in touch screen and Alpine entertainment and navigation system that uses IMPRINT MultiEQ sound-enhancement technology.

Electronic chassis systems have been developed together with Bosch to provide added safety while maintaining performance characteristics.

The name of the production car will be announced at the Motor Show. Lotus CEO Mike Kimberley said the company has a five-year model plan: "This car represents the first exciting step."
