The TTC 200 from TTControl is a programmable, general-purpose electronic control unit (ECU) for off-highway vehicles. Designed to meet the high requirements of safety-critical applications, the IEC 61508-compliant TTC 200 provides a maximum level of reliability, thus minimizing costs for development and failure. TTC 200 contains an independent watchdog central processing unit (CPU) that communicates with the main CPU. The watchdog CPU operates redundantly, monitoring activities, detecting faults, and shifting the vehicle to a safe state in case of failure. Both CPUs monitor each other and the watchdog CPU is able to switch off the power supply to stop safety-critical applications. Current applications of the TTC 200 are ice resurfacing machines, snow groomers, and mobile work machines.

As ground vehicles employ more electronic sensing, control and communication systems, design engineers are increasingly utilizing more commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) modules. Though COTS slashes development time and costs, it’s still difficult for many military users to find COTS boards that meet their low-volume demands for ruggedization and redundancy.
