Wave 8.0 from Ricardo extends engine performance and controls simulation further for off-highway applications. Turbo compressor models have improved transient surging operation, new controlled-shape multi-pulse fuel injectors, and selective catalytic reduction added to the aftertreatment suite. An updated controls interface and expanded element library enable fuel-economy innovations such as a cylinder-deactivation strategy to be incorporated easily. The software's fast 1-D engine gas-dynamics are strongly coupled with 3-D CFD in the Wave3D, speeding detailed study of manifold flows to avoid poor exhaust gas recirculation distribution early in the design.
