Power transfer coupling

  • 13-Mar-2017 10:36 EDT

The TSC8300 is a new power transfer coupling from startup-company Twin Spring Coupling (Pearl River, NY) that is warrantied to 300 lb·ft (407 N·m) of torque. Increased flexibility with the same torque curves allows the designer/engineer to achieve increased reliability with little to no modification, according to CEO Darren Finch. The constant maintenance of the internals of a universal joint is not a factor with the company’s coupling since there are no internal components—i.e., no needle bearings to maintain, no bearings to wear out. Suitable for use in automotive, mining, agriculture and industrial industries, TSC8300 applications include axle, PTO, driveshaft, steering, and conveyor belts. While connected technologies for passenger vehicles are moving toward more widespread, everyday use, the benefits of improved performance, safety, durability, and fuel economy offered by connected vehicles are rapidly gaining a foothold in the off-highway market as well, says Dana's George Constand.
Although some commercial vehicle fleets and owners remain skeptical about autonomous driving and the implications for their big rigs traveling down the highway, much of the technology is already available to make it a real possibility, states WABCO's Jon Morrison.
ZF sees many advantages and possibilities of knowledge transfer across divisions, as almost all technologies from the automotive sector also can be used in trucks, buses and off-highway vehicles, according to Dr. Klaus Geißdörfer, EVP of the Industrial Technology Division.
