Hirschmann Solutions introduces the Iridium Transceiver Antenna System (ITAS) for fleet and asset management. Under one housing, the ITAS contains an antenna paired with an Iridium 9602 modem tracking and monitoring device, power regulation, and serial communication interface to integrate global communications and allow satellite communication from anywhere. Engineered for tracking and telemetry systems, the ITAS solution can communicate outside traditional cellular networks using Iridium's 66 Low Earth Orbiting satellites and can adapt to scenarios outside terrestrial communication networks. ITAS provides data transmission for all asset management and safety-related applications, including tracking and telemetry for heavy machinery and for on- and off-highway vehicles traveling to remote locations. The plug-and-play unit expands existing systems by connecting communication services through a defined interface, offering flexibility for future telematics solutions.

As ground vehicles employ more electronic sensing, control and communication systems, design engineers are increasingly utilizing more commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) modules. Though COTS slashes development time and costs, it’s still difficult for many military users to find COTS boards that meet their low-volume demands for ruggedization and redundancy.
