Trombetta offers a microprocessor-controlled shunt FET regulator, designed for use on motorcycles, ATVs, and snowmobiles using ac generators that can be shunt regulated. The design includes a three-phase bridge with power components mounted to a metal-based circuit board. The circuit board provides a power structure mounted to a heat sink for maximum heat spreading and dissipation. A second control circuit is connected to the metal circuit board, while a microprocessor is programmed to handle various load and engine speed conditions. The unit has been tested for operation up to 3 KHz at 10,000 rpm with a 28-magnet flywheel and with loads up to 40 A. The shunt FET regulator’s mechanical design allows for improved heat sink changes and interconnections.
