Rand McNally has integrated RealVNC’s remote access technology into the HD 100 device to enable in-vehicle computing system access to data. VNC integration enables drivers to view the HD 100 display through an application on a Wi-Fi-enabled Rand McNally IntelliRoute TND GPS or mobile device. The HD 100 offers hours of service recording, engine diagnostics, GPS positioning, and other metrics. With the integration, drivers can access data from the road and can interact with messaging functions to retrieve instructions via a wireless device. The software meets electronic onboard recorder requirements specifying hours of service logging and mandating all truck and fleet driver logs be recorded electronically. The VNC remote access solution enables the connection of one computer desktop from another anywhere in the world.

As ground vehicles employ more electronic sensing, control and communication systems, design engineers are increasingly utilizing more commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) modules. Though COTS slashes development time and costs, it’s still difficult for many military users to find COTS boards that meet their low-volume demands for ruggedization and redundancy.
