CIT Relay & Switch offers the fused A18 Series automotive relay. With switching capacity up to 40 A, this sealed relay offers a 30-A fuse and accepts industry-standard-sized automotive bladed fuses. The robust A18 has an LED indicator and metal mounting tab with a socket available. Tested electrical life of the series is 100,000 cycles with dielectric strength of 1500-V rms minimum coil-to-contact and contact-to-contact, and insulation resistance of 100 MΩ minimum at 500-V dc. Shock resistance is 98 m/s² (322 ft/s²), while operating and storage temperature is -40 to +85°C (-40 to +185°F), and the switch offers a mass of 41 g (1.4 oz). The A18 Series relay is suitable for use in buses, tractors, off-road recreational vehicles, and other heavy-duty automotive uses.

As ground vehicles employ more electronic sensing, control and communication systems, design engineers are increasingly utilizing more commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) modules. Though COTS slashes development time and costs, it’s still difficult for many military users to find COTS boards that meet their low-volume demands for ruggedization and redundancy.
