Mentor Graphics Corp. recently released a general-purpose software solution that combines 1-D and 3-D computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Based on 1D Flowmaster, recently acquired by Mentor Graphics, and 3D FloEFD Concurrent CFD, the solution enables customers to speed up the design process while ensuring accurate upfront systems analysis based on fluid flow and heat transfer data by using 3-D simulation at the component level. This tightly coupled 1-D and 3-D CFD simulation software combination can characterize the more complex components of the system in 3-D and insert those component characteristics into the 1-D system-level models for simulation. This provides higher accuracy for the components while minimizing the computational resources and execution times at the system level.
