PXI RF switches

The 40-754 single-pole, double-throw switch module from Pickering Interfaces is a PXI RF unit that supports up to 17 switches in a single module. It comes in two versions: a high-density device that occupies one slot of a 3U PXI chassis and uses a high-density MS-M RF multi-way connector for switching frequencies up to 500 MHz. A higher-frequency version is two slots wide, uses SMB connectors, and is suitable for switching signals to 1.2 GHz. The device is said to be the highest-density SPDT switch available in the standard PXI format and is suitable for use in automatic test equipment (ATE) systems. It can replace older VXI-based ATE applications that are being replaced and/or upgraded by PXI/LXI solutions, where great numbers of SPDT are used as standard RF switch subassemblies.

Industrial aluminum slabs are typically produced by blending small amounts of copper or manganese in a reservoir of molten aluminum that is rapidly cooled, a process known as direct-chill casting. Variations in the way these elements solidify can yield uneven results that weaken the final product.
Researchers from the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory's Optical Sciences Division and Material Science Division have detected acoustic emissions from cracks in riveted lap joints using a distributed feedback fiber laser-acoustic emission sensor.
