Third Dimension’s GapGun Edge Break Plus technology is used by several leading aerospace engine manufacturers on their assemblies. The handheld system uses a laser and camera to create a triangulated coordinate system. It saves manufacturers time by using optical sensor technology and custom-engineered software to inspect the edges of turbine components to high levels of precision, providing a fully auditable trail throughout the manufacturing process as proof of quality. The sensor technology incorporates an ultrahigh-precision head. By focusing on small areas in great detail, real-world shop floor measurements with a repeatability of less than 10 µm are achievable, a level previously unseen in handheld optical systems.
